New edition of Startup Huddle in Girona

14 July 2023

Autoocupació hosts a new edition of Startup Huddle Girona. The event, which took place this July 5, brought together nearly 40 professionals from the world of entrepreneurship and mentoring at the Science and Technology Park of the University of Girona.

Albert Colomer, president of Autoocupació, was in charge of welcoming the attendees. Miriam Planella, Autoocupació’s delegate in Girona, and Anna Albar, director of the Science and Technology Park of the University of Girona, also spoke. Afterwards, Guillem Arís, director of the Foundation, explained how Startup Huddle works and facilitated the event.

The first entrepreneurs to present their challenge were Olga Barcons and Màrius Mansilla, from Escape the Town, a game-app that allows users to playfully discover various towns in Catalonia and Spain. Attendees helped them with their challenge: how to secure financial involvement from town councils for their project.

The second challenge was presented by Txell Descarrega, partner and founder of the cooperative Hèstia Benestar. This worker cooperative aims to dignify the lives of elderly people and/or people with dependency, in order to foster their autonomy. The challenge they face is how to find suitable worker candidates to respond to peak workloads, offering decent wages and maintaining service quality.

After the presentation of the challenges, Albert Piñeira, vice-president of the Girona Provincial Council and head of the Culture, New Technologies, Sports, and Education Area, intervened.

The event concluded with a networking activity among the attending entrepreneurs and mentors.
