Women Who Are Redefining the Future

26 March 2026

If you stop to think and look back, it has only been 3 or 4 years since we started using tools such as artificial intelligence, yet everything seems to be moving faster and faster. We are living in a time shaped by digital transformation, scientific advances, and major global challenges. Technology is progressing at an extraordinary pace, and we are constantly discovering new developments—but is anyone applying critical thinking to all this innovation?

There are several women leading key areas in shaping the future. From AI to biomedicine and the financial system, these figures are breaking barriers and driving changes that directly impact society. Below, we introduce some of the women who are currently leading this progress.

Fei-Fei Li: Humanizing Artificial Intelligence

Fei-Fei Li (Beijing, 1975), recognized as one of the most influential figures in the field of artificial intelligence, has played a key role in the development of computer vision. As a researcher and professor at Stanford, she has advocated for AI that is more ethical, inclusive, and human-centered.

Her work has not only driven technological progress but has also highlighted the importance of reflecting on how we want these technologies to impact society. She led the creation of ImageNet, a massive dataset that enabled the training of computer vision algorithms and marked a turning point in the development of deep learning.

Jennifer Doudna: Revolutionizing Science

Jennifer Doudna (Washington, 1964) is one of the most influential scientists of the 21st century and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of CRISPR technology, a tool that allows DNA to be edited with unprecedented precision.

This breakthrough has opened the door to potential treatments for genetic diseases and has revolutionized fields such as medicine, biology, and biotechnology. At the same time, Doudna has also been a leading voice in the ethical debate surrounding the limits of this technology, emphasizing the need to regulate its use and reflect on its social implications.

Timnit Gebru: Technology with Critical Awareness

Timnit Gebru (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 1983) is an internationally recognized researcher for her work in the field of ethics in artificial intelligence. Her research has been essential in demonstrating how algorithmic systems can reproduce social inequalities, especially in relation to gender and race.

She co-founded the Black in AI movement, with the aim of increasing the presence and visibility of racialized individuals within the technology sector. Her career has also highlighted the tensions between technological innovation and social responsibility, making her a key figure in the global debate about the limits and risks of AI.

Anne Boden: Reinventing the Financial System

Anne Boden (1960, Wales) is recognized for being the first woman to found a fully digital bank, Starling Bank, one of the most innovative digital banks in Europe. Her model, based on eliminating bureaucracy and providing real-time notifications, has helped transform the way people manage their finances.

In addition, she has promoted initiatives aimed at advancing gender equality and supporting female talent, such as “Share the Load,” focused on shared responsibility for domestic tasks, and “Kick On with Starling,” designed to support women’s football.

Did you already know these four women? They are an example of how technology, science, and social commitment can transform the future by promoting innovation with responsibility and awareness.

At Autoocupació, we believe in people’s potential to lead change and build a more innovative and fair future. That is why we promote initiatives to support you in key areas such as training and entrepreneurial resources, so you can move forward toward the future you want—and confidently say: I am what I want to be!
